ClearCart vs Knockoff
September 22, 2026 · Written by the person who builds ClearCart, so read it as one side of the story. The facts about Knockoff come from its own listing, its public code and its author's posts.
In July 2026 Josh Pigford released Knockoff, a free extension that hides "alphabet soup" brands on Amazon. It got a lot of well-deserved coverage. If you found this page, you are probably deciding between the two, or you already use Knockoff and wonder what ClearCart adds. Short answer: if Knockoff does what you need, keep it. The rest of this page is the longer answer.
What they have in common
Both run entirely inside your browser, need no account and send nothing to a server. Both keep a list of thousands of established brands and look at how a brand name is spelled to decide whether it is real. Both collapse the junk out of Amazon search results rather than grading a product after you clicked it, which is the thing that made Fakespot feel like too little too late. If you are choosing between "one of these" and "nothing", pick either and your Amazon search gets better today.
Where Knockoff is better
- It is free, full stop. ClearCart's filter is also free and always will be, but ClearCart has a paid tier for the tuning controls. Knockoff has no paid anything.
- It is open source. You can read every line. ClearCart's code ships unminified in the package and the scoring is documented, but it is not on GitHub.
- Every Amazon marketplace. Knockoff runs on all of them. ClearCart runs on the English-language ones (US, Canada, UK, Australia, India) because its brand model is English and would wrongly flag legitimate German or Japanese brands.
- A bigger name. More users means more people reporting brands it got wrong, which makes its list better faster.
Where ClearCart is better
- It tells you why. A hidden listing does not vanish. It leaves a bar that says "Hidden: made-up brand name", "Hidden: inflated list price" or "Hidden: no brand name", and one click brings it back. You are never left wondering what happened to a result.
- Fewer real brands caught. Name-based filters have one weakness, and Knockoff's author has been open about it: real brands with odd names get hidden. ClearCart looks at more than the name. A brand with 40,000 reviews or a Best Seller badge gets credit for it even if it looks like keyboard mash, close calls are tagged "borderline" instead of hidden, and every hidden listing has a "Not junk? Tell us" link that goes to a person.
- It catches junk that has a normal-looking name. A pronounceable brand nobody has heard of, a listing with no brand at all, a "typical price" of $249.99 on a $19.97 item, a sponsored listing with three reviews and five stars. Those are scored too.
- Walmart. The same junk economy has moved into Walmart's marketplace, and ClearCart filters walmart.com search with the same engine.
- Edge, as well as Chrome and Firefox.
- Controls, if you want them. Strictness presets, your own always-show and always-hide lists, hiding every sponsored listing, house-brand handling. That is the paid part: on for your first 14 days, then $13 a year or, until December 31, $29 once.
Side by side
| Knockoff | ClearCart | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Free | Filter free forever; tuning controls $13/yr or $29 once (founding, until Dec 31) |
| Runs locally, no account | Yes | Yes |
| Open source | Yes | No (unminified, documented) |
| Amazon marketplaces | All | US, CA, UK, AU, IN |
| Walmart | No | Yes |
| Browsers | Chrome, Firefox | Chrome, Firefox, Edge |
| How it decides | Brand list + name heuristics | Brand list + name heuristics + review count, badges, list-price inflation, title patterns, copy-paste detection |
| Hidden listing shows a reason | No | Yes, with one-click reveal |
| Close calls | Hidden or shown | Tagged "borderline", still shown |
| Report a wrong call | GitHub issue | Link on every hidden listing |
Can you run both?
Yes, and nothing breaks, but you will not learn much. Whichever one runs first hides the listing and the other never sees it. If you want to compare them, turn one off for a week.
How to pick
Amazon only, want zero cost and like open source: Knockoff. Shop Walmart too, want to see why something was hidden, or have been bitten by a real brand disappearing: ClearCart. Either way, you will stop scrolling past ZQXWK.
